Termites may be devouring your house

Termites are social insects that look whitish and live on the ground and eat wood. When we see them, usually, by breaking a frame of a damaged door, by breaking a clay tube from the wall or ceiling, or by lifting a cardboard box from the ground, it looks like rice grains run out . Only in spring, the appearance of some of them is as if they were winged or black ants with wings, when in reality they are winged termites.

Types of Termites

We could refer to at least 3 main groups within which most of the species that have to be fought are:

Subterranean termites

The termites that usually attack the wooden elements of a property, are Termites Subterráneas, Reticulitermes sp, reason why they live in the ground and not in the wood as it is usually thought. Only go to the cellulosic elements, to collect the food that will serve to feed the rest of the colony that is under the ground. Therefore, the King and Queen, directly responsible for the growth of a termite nest, live under the ground, being very difficult to locate.

Moist wood termites

This group of termites feeds on rotting wood like old tree stumps, decaying trunks and pieces of buried wood. Once established, they can be moved to healthy wood structures of the buildings.

Termites of dry wood

As their own name indicates they have their nests inside their own food source, in this case, wood without the need for high humidity. the latter being considered the most destructive species in the world within its genus.

Termite Breeds

Termites are social insects that live in colonies within the so-called termite mounds and their individuals are divided into castes. The different castes of the termites differ not only by their appearance but also in the function they perform within the colony. There are three different castes: worker termites, soldier termites, and spawners.

How to detect the presence of termites

If you want to have a full and accurate knowledge about the activity of termite within a certain property, it requires the presence of a termite expert who can acquire this information with the help of detection tools (acoustic and electromagnetic).

Termites produce serious damage

The extent of the damage caused by termites are associated with the amount of cellulosic elements easily accessible to them (from the ground they use the interior of technical spaces or inside walls and walls). If a property has wooden structural elements, the presence of subterranean termites can end with the collapse of the property, so this type of situation has to be considered as serious and therefore, urgent intervention by a company specialized in treatments to eliminate termites.
